While working on my sense of place series, I began to have a growing interest in different cultures and the traditional materials that we as Africans use to represent our different African tribes. Because of the recent xenophobic attacks that have been happening in our country, I realised that there are many tensions that build up between us as people of colour and not only as different races. Despite us all being African, we still face issues such as colourism, racism and xenophobia. Through research and a better understanding of these social issues, and through my growing interest, I believe that I will be able to explore these tensions going into my third year.
